THREE EUROPEAN POSITIONS OF MODERN PAINTING WITH
EGS // ZBIOK // HELL’O COLLECTIVE
In times where the genre of post-graffiti is likely to produce an overkill it is mandatory for the curator to hand – pick those who are most likely to be relevant for the culture.
I had already been working with Zbiok at Vicious Gallery 10 years ago, Egs appeared on my radar in the early nineties when european train graffiti had it´s first momentum. Hell‘O Collective were on my mind since their first show at Alice in Brussels. It was nothing but an idea combining their art in one show that took a while to grow in my head until now – it has finally come to realisation!
What I really like about them all is that their transformation from graffiti to what we call it now MODERN PAINTING has gone quite far, whithout loosing sight of their roots. Therefore exists a visible essence, quite like a well tempered spice in a fine stew.
One can argue about style and taste, but for sure these three positions show how far european post graffiti has come and how elaborately diversified the continent has become in the field of modern painting.
